How many sessions will I need?
The optimal number of sessions depends on several factors including:
- the complexity and number of issues you want to address
- how deep you want to dive on getting to the root causes of issues
- the level of support you’d like in implementing change
I can provide a general indication of the number of sessions you may need during your free 15 minute consultation.
Questions about online support
How do you maintain confidentiality?
Confidentiality of psychology sessions is essential from an ethical standpoint and an important component of establishing a trusting partnership. I use a health-specific video platform for sessions that is part of my Practice Management Software (Halaxy). It is specifically compliant with Australian regulations and is fully encrypted. Each client is given a unique link to access their session, in order to maximise security. I conduct sessions from a private room and wear headphones for each session, to ensure that information is only heard by me.
To maintain confidentiality of client information and files, I use Practice Management Software (Halaxy) specifically designed to meet the needs and patient privacy requirements of Health Professionals. Data is encrypted and stored on secure servers to the same level of security required by Australian banks. Further information about Halaxy can be found here https://www.halaxy.com/article/privacy
It is strongly recommended that clients select an appointment time and location in which they are not likely to be disturbed and feel able to speak openly.
Do I need any special equipment or software?
You do not need to download any software to access sessions. You simply need good internet access (if you can stream services like Netflix, your internet is sufficient) and a device compatible with video calls (i.e. a device that includes a camera, microphone and speaker, such as a smart phone, an iPad/tablet, or a laptop). Some clients may prefer to use headphones for added privacy.
Each client is provided with a unique link that takes them directly to the secure video platform and enables access to the session at the scheduled time.
Can parents or caregivers attend online sessions from different locations?
Yes, the video platform I utilise enables me to speak to two people who are in different locations at the time of the appointment. If you wish to make use of this set-up, please provide me with at least 24 hours notice, as I will need to add each person as a separate client in my practice management software, in order to provide two separate links to the same session.
I’m really not comfortable with video calling, do you offer phone sessions as an alternative?
Yes, of course! Whilst there are benefits of video appointments, I recognise that not everyone has access to the basic requirements for a video session, whilst others may feel uncomfortable with either the technology or the experience of video calls. If this is the case, please let me know and I will happily arrange a phone consultation instead.
Can I claim rebates from Medicare rebates or Private Health Insurance?
At this time, Medicare does not provide rebates for psychology services for parents + caregivers seeking parenting support.
You would need to check directly with your private health insurer whether the psychology services provided are covered in your plan.
What if I can’t make my session?
Please provide notice as soon as possible if you are unable to make your appointment. Of course life doesn’t always go to plan, however sessions cancelled with short-notice will incur a fee, as appointments times are limited and the tailored and individualised nature of this psychology consultation service makes it challenging to fill cancelled session slots.
Please see the Cancellation Policy for details on cancellation requirements and fees.
